Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table
Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of characters who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the group understands precisely where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his obligations and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This means them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Questers and Schemers tables.
